A winery in the heart of Lisbon

Small in scale, meticulous in craft, we create edgy fine wines from native Iberian grapes grown along Lisbon’s Atlantic coast. Each bottle reflects skill, care, intention, and a bit of craziness as well. We work with growers who are paid fairly and farm with respect for the land. We avoid monocultures and maintain independence in every decision. The world is our home, Belém is where our heart beats. Visit us for a tasting, a cellar tour, or to plan your event.

“Colorful and lively wine think tank, where independent, precision-driven wines are bottled with a pinch of new age spirit.”

Portfolio

We vinify grapes growing in the coastal regions in and around Lisbon. Our passion is to create wines that express the Atlantic terroir of these regions as much as an enologically audacious, at times experimental approach to wine craft that we have made ours. Our portfolio comprises varietal white wines, barrel aged red wines, amphora wines, different types of sparkling wines and fortified wines including a DOP Carcavelos.

Sustainable Design

We champion a whole system-approach to product and packaging design. Our grapes are grown in heterogeneous landscapes marked by mixed cropping, agroecological diversity and a progressive shift towards organic management practice. Our company is economically sustainable and pays all suppliers a fair price, without any systemic input of public subsidies. Our packaging design combines a vivid personalized style of labels using visual elements drawn by members of our family (most by our daughters Ana and Sofia) and a clear choice for recyclable packing materials including ultra-light weight glass bottles, natural monolithic cork and no plastics at all. We actively lobby for a EU-wide introduction of re-usable standardized glass bottles. As demonstrated by our beer brewing colleagues, washing and reusing standard glass bottles reduces the energy footprint of the current recycling method by up to 70%! So, Frau von der Leyen and Senhor Costa: let’s start putting this into practice!

“But if anyone thinks that a wine must be better because it comes packaged in a bottle that weighs as much as a telephone directory, then they are stupid.”

Jancis Robinson, Down with bodybuilder bottles, 2006

Visit us

Drop by for a tasting during opening hours, no booking required. Or learn more about wine making by taking part in a tour through our winemaking cellars, or book an exclusive private event for your family, friends or company.

We believe that visiting each other is not just about learning about what makes other different from self, but also and maybe more importantly to experience that wonderful feeling of being part of a common humanity. Even if its development is at times poorly managed, we do love tourism, and we do love tourists from here and there. We are often tourists ourselves looking strange like tourists riding on camels through the desert, to visit other places, or to promote our wines outside our neighborhood.

We have one long table where 28 people can comfortably sit together, and also ample space to host bar-style cocktails and receptions with up to 74 people. We provide starters and food pairings made of premium quality local produce, and also work with a caterer to organize 3-course wine menus. Read more
