Our street terrace is open for tastings, drinks and tapas (groups of up to four people). Due to CORONA health measures, the tasting room remains closed to the public. We remain open for shop pick up orders during usual opening hours directly at the cellar door.
(*Minimum order: 6 bottles)
The winery is located in the heart of Lisbon’s historic district of Belém. It is built inside an old car repair shop within the walls of the 18th century former infirmary of the king of Portugal. We have modernized the building and integrated a modern production cellar, a barrel cellar, a large roof terrace and a cozy tasting room. The winery has its own waste water treatment plant and we use non-chemical steam cleaning technology to sanitize the winery and winemaking equipment. Many artifacts of the car repair shop now feature as decor in the cellar door, which can accommodate up to 50 visitors.
Our wines are made from native varietals grown in the Atlantic climate of the Lisbon and Setúbal wine regions. Handpicked in the freshness of the early morning hours, the grapes ferment spontaneously in open vats. Adopting a minimal intervention approach, our aim is to grow outstanding wines with original personalities reflecting the particularities of each year and terroir – and of us as winemakers. Depending on the year, our production ranges between 12,000 and 16,000 bottles, which we sell in the cellar door in Belém, in our online shop and via a selection of retailers and restaurants.
Before studying winemaking and becoming winemakers, we were university researchers, Catarina, a biologist studying the mating calls (“quak quak”) of the Iberian tree frog and David, an anthropologist doing ethnography in the Western Indian Ocean. Through her research, Catarina found that female frogs generally respond to males who call in the local frog-dialect. Only in some rare cases, females fall for the unique spell of a peculiar foreign male passing by their pond, and love happens. That’s kind of our story. And that’s why the Iberian tree frog is our logo.
Taste and buy our wines directly at the winery in Belém. If you wish, hang on and combine your tastings with a selection of olives, artisan cheese, cured meat or Iberian chouriço, join one of our events, take a tasting class, or tailor-make your own wine experience. On Friday nights, we serve wine and petiscos until 20h30.
You can also order our wines in the online shop with preferential delivery rates for Portugal and many European countries.

Two enthusiastic lecturers who, once in Switzerland, enriched my knowledge of the world of wine, finally creating their own winery. Am looking forward to tasting the results of their global experience.
We look forward to joining Catarina e David at Adega Belém Urban Winery for the quality of their wines, their convivial company and their encouragement of scholarly exchange!
Catarina, Grande mulher, grandes missões, grande adegueira e grande enologa - que o bom espirito do Sado te faça igualmente brilhar no Tejo!
